I definitely would settle on New Orleans and the first name that comes to mind is the legendary Buddy Bolden. Unfortunately, he passed prior to being recorded but the oral history spoken by those who knew and saw him play speaks volumes. There are several others as well like some of the blues musicians who were playing back then but didn’t make it onto vinyl. I’m guessing the years to be the late 1860’s to just before the mid 1900’s.
