“Nowhere Man” was written by John Lennon mostly in 1965. The reason why I say mostly is because he and Paul McCartney are listed as coauthors to every Beatles song right through their very last album as a group. John Lennon was discovering his feelings at the time and found introspection into the events taking place in his life, the rapid success, the crowds at the arena concerts, and the impending issues following them. He was beginning to feel overwhelmed a bit.

So he was kind of like singing about himself. By 1965 he was a very lucky and fortunate guy, but he probably felt his life was heading into a tailspin. He was telling his audience to slow down a bit likewise by saying, “nowhere man, please listen you don’t know what you’re missing the world is at your command.” And not to get over taken by too much glory, not become vain or let it consume you. Paul may have contributed a sentence or two, I don’t know which ones he did, so we’ll just leave it at that assuming he did write some lyrics thrown in. John and Paul were known to do that from “Rubber Soul” on. “Nowhere Man” was released as a single in approximately mid 1966. It is on the “Rubber Soul” album which was released in December of 1965.
