While hyenas may have a stronger bite force compared to lions, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are stronger overall. In terms of physical strength and size, lions generally outweigh hyenas. A lion can weigh around 500 pounds, whereas hyenas rarely exceed 200 pounds in weight. So, lions are both larger and potentially more powerful than hyenas.
Regarding bite force, hyenas do have an impressive bite force of around 1,100 pounds, slightly higher than the lion’s bite force of 1,000 pounds. However, it’s worth noting that hyenas’ ability to consume bones is due to their stronger stomach acids rather than their bite force. This allows them to digest and benefit from bone matter more effectively than lions.
In summary, while hyenas may have a greater bite force and the ability to consume bones, lions still surpass them in terms of size and overall strength.
