Why did anyone like Alanis Morisette's music? What were her fans like and what were her most popular songs? How she became famous when her music is just not only awful, but seriously depressing to listen to?

Someone much smarter than me once said, “ beauty is in the eye of the beholder. “ I don’t know who you like musically but I am sure that there would be some musician that you like that I do not. Anyway, fans of Alanis Morisette are a diverse group. Obviously, I can’t speak for all of them but I can tell you what I, as a black man found appealing about her music. The first song I heard by her was, You Oughta Know. That song hit me like a ton of bricks, why, because there wasn’t anything else like it by a female at that time. It wasn’t your typical you dumped me and I am going to cry about it 24/7. No, this woman was pissed and if she had written the song about me, I would be sleeping with one eye open, lol!!! But, amazingly, she pulled this off while maintaining a good melody, great guitar and bass lines and awesome lyrics. The song is definitely unforgettable and if it is played forty years after it was first recorded, it will still sound fresh. Another thing to love about her music is that it all doesn’t sound the same. She can rock hard, she can be a balladeer and everything in between. She just doesn’t write a bad song, period!! Ironic was a brilliant pop record!! Uninvited was the most hauntingly beautiful ballad by a female not named Kate Bush that I had ever heard!! She can flat out sing and not to sound sexist, is not bad to look at!!! Her music isn’t all depressing but if it was, why would that necessarily be a thing? You can always listen to someone else if you need your spirits lifted. To me, she is just phenomenal. Try listening to her music again but with an open mind this time.
