Indeed, mammals have evolved in various ways, including the development of beak-like mouths in monotremes such as platypuses and echidnas.
Monotremes have a unique method of feeding their young. Instead of suckling, the mother’s milk seeps out and accumulates on her belly, allowing the babies to lap it up. As a result, their mouths can have a different shape that enables them to lap the milk. In contrast, all other mammals have nipples and rely on suckling, which requires the presence of lips.
It is theoretically possible that in the future, certain precocial mammals whose offspring wean at a very young age might evolve to the point where they no longer produce milk. If these species were to start consuming solid food from birth, it is conceivable that they could develop beak-like structures if such adaptations proved advantageous. However, it is important to note that this evolutionary change has not occurred as of now.
