Why do flight attendants get to walk around when the seatbelt sign is on but yell at you that it's not safe if you attempt to do the same?

Flight attendants are trained to prioritize safety and follow specific procedures during different phases of the flight. While it may seem contradictory that flight attendants can move about the cabin when the seatbelt sign is illuminated while passengers are generally asked to remain seated, there are reasons behind this discrepancy.

    1. Job Requirements: Flight attendants are essential crew members responsible for the safety and well-being of passengers. They need to move around the cabin to perform various duties, including checking on passengers, serving meals and beverages, assisting with emergencies, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
    2. Familiarity with the Aircraft: Flight attendants receive extensive training on how to move safely around the cabin, even during turbulence or other potentially hazardous conditions. They are trained to maintain their balance, hold onto secure handholds, and adapt their movements to the aircraft’s motion.
    3. Preparedness for Turbulence: Flight attendants are generally aware of weather conditions and receive updates from the flight deck. They are prepared to respond quickly to unexpected turbulence, such as returning to their jump seats and securing themselves in case of severe turbulence.
    4. Passenger Safety: Passengers, on the other hand, may not be as familiar with the aircraft or trained in safety procedures. The seatbelt sign is illuminated to ensure that passengers remain seated and securely belted during critical phases of flight, such as takeoff, landing, or when encountering turbulence. This helps to reduce the risk of injuries caused by sudden movements or turbulence-related incidents.

While flight attendants may move about the cabin during the flight, they are still expected to exercise caution and prioritize their safety. It’s important for passengers to follow the instructions provided by flight attendants and keep their seatbelts fastened when the seatbelt sign is illuminated to ensure their own safety and the safety of those around them.
