There seems to be a stereotypical thinking that kids and teens from Generation Z only listen to nowadays music and disapproves the brilliant talent from the 80’s. That might be true because majority of my classmates really hated the song when I would play it in school. However, I’m obviously a fan of 80’s music, and I’m from Generation Z.

The fact is: 80’s music had a large complexity than nowadays in terms of music.

Think about the really talented bands during that time; Dire Straits, Queen, Genesis, etc. These bands are real talents (I might be biased on Dire Straits because I’m a BIG fan of them), especially Mark Knopfler’s unique way of playing the guitar in the song “Money For Nothing”. There are also good lead singers in rock bands (Phil Collins from Genesis, Sting from The Police), with their uncommon talent in singing.

Let’s switch to the genre of pop. Pop singers during the 80’s sing really clearly and that if you listen closely, you can even here the lyrics right off the bat. For example, George Michael. (RIP) His singing style in “Careless Whisper” is really exceptional and he deserved big recognition for his most famous solo song. Another remarkable example is Phil Collins. (I know, I’m also a fan of Phil Collins) Just listen to his 1989 hit “Another Day In Paradise”. You can hear his voice very precisely with the lyrics. The thing is, these singers actually sing really well, even without auto-tune. (Ahem, Camilla Cabello in Havana)

The genres in the 1980’s are easier to identify than now. Compare these two songs: Despacito by Luis Fonsi, and Here Comes The Rain Again by Eurythmics. Despacito ripped off an acoustic guitar riff similar to Hotel California (Seriously, just listen to both riffs at the beginning, and you know what I mean) before starting its pop style music. It’s very confusing for listeners, considering the fact that “Here Comes The Rain Again” by Eurythmics had a pretty straightforward rhythm for pop.

Lastly, we will compare the impact of the singers from the 1980’s and the present. The impact from 80’s singers still impact some people now, and 80’s music has been remembered internationally for their musical genius in their songs. Compare that to nowadays, and some singers are even hated because they have no musical talent at all. (Ahem, Justin Bieber)

In conclusion, people like to listen to 80’s music because it’s simply better than nowadays. Period.
