When I left for basic training, I had to leave behind my beloved cat whom I had shared 16 years with. Upon my return, he wasted no time in expressing his joy by leaping onto my lap. The force of his excitement was so strong that it almost caused a concussion as he repeatedly bumped his forehead against mine in a heartfelt greeting. The vibrations of his purrs could be felt not only by me but also by the others sitting on the sofa with us.

However, he couldn’t resist showing his displeasure at being left behind for six weeks. To make sure I knew he was unhappy with my absence, he sought out my boots and left a little “gift” in them. Nevertheless, his mischievous act served as undeniable proof that he had missed me dearly.
