Introducing Prince, my Shepard-mutt, who is quite the character. Despite being a bit of a scaredy-cat in everyday situations, he transforms into a fearless protector when the pack or I are under attack. It’s like his inner Shepherd-Chowness takes over.

Prince has demonstrated his fierce loyalty by shielding his pug brother from a pit bull, unleashing his inner Mike Tyson on the unsuspecting intruder. And when a thief attempted to rob our car, Prince’s swift actions nearly cost the culprit his hand.

But once the need for protection subsides, Prince goes back to being his sweet and jumpy self, always on edge even at the slightest shadow.

It’s amazing how Prince channels his inner Lassie when something is amiss. He barks persistently until I follow him, and on one occasion, he led me to his brother George, who had gotten himself stuck up a hill.

Dogs truly are remarkable creatures. Prince, in particular, has saved our home and pack from a fire incident. One day, he woke me up from a nap, insistent with his barking and scratching. Initially thinking he wanted to play, I brushed him off. But he didn’t give up and nipped me hard on the thigh. Startled, I followed him into the kitchen, only to discover our old 1970’s stove range engulfed in flames. Thanks to Prince’s alertness, we managed to prevent a disastrous outcome. We promptly upgraded to a new stove range, ensuring our safety.

Prince continues to be our everyday savior, consistently showering us with unwavering love and loyalty. He truly is a remarkable friend. (And let’s not judge Buddha, the alpha pug, who slept through the entire incident. All hail the Pug King!)
