However, the presence of curly hair in modern Africans while non-Africans tend to have straight or wavy hair suggests that the earliest humans may have had curly hair, but those who migrated out of Africa lost this trait.

However, this theory seems inconsistent with the observation that African apes generally do not have tight curly hair.

Upon examining wild animals, including those in Africa, tight curly hair appears to be absent or rare. It occasionally manifests in domesticated animals. Consequently, climate, heat, sun, and environment alone cannot explain the evolution of curly hair in humans.
