Donkeys do indeed produce milk, as they are mammals.

Interestingly, donkey milk is sold at a premium price of Rs 2,000 per liter, as reported by the Times of India. In comparison, consumers typically purchase cow milk at around Rs 35 per liter.

When I approached a local veterinary doctor to inquire about the higher price of donkey milk, the doctor explained that it is justified due to its perceived medicinal properties.

In the field of veterinary science in India, there has been a systematic focus on improving milk production by eliminating native cow breeds, introducing semen from exotic breeds, cultivating high-yielding grasses, and recommending the use of urea to enhance grass productivity.

As a result, India has become the top milk-producing nation but with minimal medicinal value.

This approach is considered a development and scientific advancement, known as “vignan” in our culture.

However, according to my ancestors, they believed that a few tablespoons of milk from native cow breeds hold more value than a gallon of donkey milk.
