If you are using such a collar for that purpose, to protect your working dogs while they guard your livestock such as sheep, goats, camels, or chickens, then I see no issue with it.

However, if you are getting this type of collar solely as a fashion statement to make your dog appear tough or cool, I would say it’s not particularly necessary and may attract criticism from others.

If you are acquiring this collar because you actively engage your dog in situations where it fights other dogs or people, I do not consider it appropriate. I believe it is no longer acceptable to be so casual about your dog’s life in modern times. We have evolved beyond the mindset of 1492.
