Hi,
I’m a doctor and I can relate to your experience. I used to work in a hospital where I was exposed to a lot of artificial light and had limited sun exposure. This led to me developing vitamin D deficiency, which caused me to experience a number of symptoms, including body aches, generalized weakness/lethargy, mood changes (depression or anxiety), joint pain & muscle ache.
I eventually went to the doctor and had my vitamin D levels checked. My levels were very low, at just 4.2 ng/ml. The normal range for vitamin D levels is 30-100 ng/ml. Anything below 20 ng/ml is considered deficient.
My doctor started me on a course of vitamin D supplements. I took 1,000 IU of vitamin D3 per day for 8 weeks. After 8 weeks, my vitamin D levels had increased to 22.4 ng/ml.
I’m happy to report that my symptoms have all improved since I started taking vitamin D supplements. I no longer have body aches, generalized weakness/lethargy, mood changes (depression or anxiety), joint pain & muscle ache. I feel much better now than I did before.
If you’re experiencing any of the symptoms of vitamin D deficiency, I encourage you to talk to your doctor. They can check your vitamin D levels and recommend a course of treatment.
Here are some additional tips for getting enough vitamin D:
It’s important to talk to your doctor before taking any supplements, including vitamin D. They can help you determine the right dose for you.
