The symptoms of chronic kidney disease (CKD) may not be noticeable until the disease has progressed significantly. Early signs may include fatigue, difficulty concentrating, decreased appetite, swelling in the feet and ankles, increased urination at night, foamy urine, blood in urine, and high blood pressure. It’s essential to discuss any symptoms with a healthcare provider, as they may indicate CKD.

The leading causes of CKD are diabetes, high blood pressure, and kidney infections. Other risk factors include smoking, obesity, and a family history of kidney disease. While there is no cure for CKD, proper treatment can slow or stop the disease’s progression. Treatment options may include medication, lifestyle changes such as exercise and a healthy diet, and in severe cases, dialysis or kidney transplant.

Prevention is key, and steps can be taken to reduce the risk of CKD, such as managing underlying health conditions and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Early detection and treatment can also help prevent complications and improve outcomes.

CKD has five stages, ranging from mild kidney damage to kidney failure. Symptoms become more severe as the disease progresses, and treatment depends on the stage and underlying cause. Lifestyle changes are recommended in the early stages, and medication, dialysis, or kidney transplant may be necessary in later stages. Regular checkups, monitoring blood pressure and sugar levels, and following a healthy lifestyle can slow the disease’s progression. It’s also essential to avoid medications that can harm the kidneys and follow a healthcare provider’s advice on managing the condition.
