Typically, a blood pressure reading of 130/80 mmHg or higher is considered high, although the definition of high blood pressure may vary depending on factors such as age, weight, and overall health.
The American Heart Association provides the following categories for blood pressure:
– Normal: less than 120/80 mmHg
– Elevated: systolic between 120-129 mmHg and diastolic less than 80 mmHg
– Stage 1 hypertension: systolic between 130-139 mmHg or diastolic between 80-89 mmHg
– Stage 2 hypertension: systolic at least 140 mmHg or diastolic at least 90 mmHg
– Hypertensive crisis: systolic over 180 mmHg and/or diastolic over 120 mmHg
It’s important to note that high blood pressure, or hypertension, can increase the risk of serious health problems, including heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease. If you are concerned about your blood pressure, it is recommended to consult with a healthcare professional or your doctor.
