Here is a possible rewrite:
The following ten foods would provide most of the essential nutrients your body needs: eggs, fish or grass-fed beef, broccoli, blueberries, almonds, walnuts, kale, black beans, Greek yogurt, and garlic. I eat a similar diet myself, and I believe that variety is not as important as making smart choices. In fact, there is little evidence that we need a wide variety of foods. Some foods are far more beneficial than others, such as garlic, which can slow the growth of calcium build-up in arteries, fight infection, and promote healthy gut bacteria. Olive oil is also a much better option than soybean oil, and kale is much more nutritious than iceberg lettuce. Certain foods, commonly found in processed junk, such as sugar and trans fats, should be avoided.
Unfortunately, we are surrounded by unhealthy food choices, including cheap refined carbohydrates and rancid industrial seed oils that were not commonly consumed until after World War II. In order to maintain a healthy diet, it’s important to intentionally reject most food options and choose wisely.
I’m going to the doctor with my mom. How do I signify to my doctor that I am lying because she’s here and I want to speak with him more privately or without her?
As others have suggested, it’s probably best to call in advance. Depending on your age and access to the doctor’s portal (if available), you may have the right to private communication with your doctor. In the US, this is usually at 13 years old, but it may vary. The portal offers secure and private communication, so make sure to create a secure password for it.
Having these options allows the doctor to maintain control of the situation, which can be an advantage. At a certain age, the doctor should ask if you want to have a private conversation or simply ask the parents to leave. They may ask about sensitive topics like sexual activity, which may be difficult for some kids (if you’re a kid) to be honest about.
If all else fails, you can simply look the doctor in the eye and request a private conversation. I’m sure your doctor has received this request before and knows how to handle a hesitant parent.
