Heart disease is a major cause of death worldwide, and a heart attack, also known as a myocardial infarction, is a serious complication of heart disease. However, it is not necessarily true that more people are dying from heart attacks nowadays compared to the past.

In fact, according to the American Heart Association, the death rate from heart disease in the United States has been decreasing since the mid-20th century, although it remains a significant public health issue.

Several factors can increase the risk of heart disease and heart attack, including age, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, obesity, a family history of heart disease, and a sedentary lifestyle.

Recent studies have suggested that the prevalence of risk factors such as obesity and diabetes may be increasing, which could contribute to an increase in the incidence of heart disease and heart attacks.

It is crucial to note that heart disease and heart attacks are largely preventable through lifestyle changes and medical treatment. Adopting a healthy diet, engaging in regular physical activity, quitting smoking, managing stress, and getting regular check-ups with a healthcare provider to monitor blood pressure, cholesterol, and other risk factors can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease.
